Finally happened when they reclassified everyone. Never had the same success in the old Division 2 (now 1A) but had he stayed, he wouldn't have had to play the Saturday before Trukey Day, and maybe would have started his snowflakes against mean old Marshfield. Bet they would have started if the QB needed a few more TD passes for the record! Total disrespect for the game, for the competition, and for his own kids' chance for an undefeated season. Now, at best, they are just one of EIGHT state champions and a top 10 team with a 53-0 loss to their rival that their seniors NEVER beat!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3942142104359573240.post-41115629220400422872016-11-26T10:38:11.770-05:002016-11-26T10:38:11.770-05:00resting starters is the wrong move. holliston had ...resting starters is the wrong move. holliston had a player injured on thanksgiving but still won a super bowl. marshfield 2014 played starters and won super bowl. lesson is that winning is more important than competing. moreover, the decision affects way more than 1 or 2 athletes who may or may not become injured. no one wants to watch an noncompetitive game and it robs the other team from meaningful competition in their last game ever, and the fans from both towns are let down. it's a cowardly decision. a different perspective is that if a player did become injured, it's an opportunity for someone else to step up and rise to the occasion. myopic decision and no moral reasoning in the decision by coaches to rest starters. we want athletes to learn positive lessons while playing sports... unless it interferes with winning.
coaches saying that it is even a tough decision is the problem. no question, the right lesson and the one that makes the biggest impact is play everyone and give your best effort. a player can get hurt down 1 of the super bowl, is that worse than being hurt on thanksgiving?
#NOTGOINGPROAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3942142104359573240.post-32462423244751234142016-11-26T09:07:46.216-05:002016-11-26T09:07:46.216-05:00Wonder if Charlie would feel the same way if X act...Wonder if Charlie would feel the same way if X actually played all the CC teams in season before the playoffs, and played someone like Brockton for Thanksgiving? How can the MIAA coaches lobby hard to maintain the traditions of the Thanksgiving games, then disregard the tradition when it suits them? Duxbury chose to relinquish their #1 state ranking, getting shellacked 53-0 by Marshfield. I guess beating up on Pembroke and Silver Lake was OK though? Again, if they were playing a patsy would his starters sit? Disrespect is not even having them dress, but stand there in sweats..like a special group above the rest of the team! When roles were reversed two years ago, Silva did the right thing.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
