Central Mass Lacrosse Playoff Race Update: 5/23/16

Luke Hanlon and WooLax are just a single win away from the tournament.
By Joe Parello (@HerewegoJoe)

Last week was a big one for tournament qualification and elimination  in Central Mass, as several teams punched their tickets to the state tournament, and a few fell by the wayside. But, there are still teams with work left to do heading into the final week of the regular season.

As a reminder, you qualify for the state tournament by finishing with a .500 record, or by finishing in the Top-2 of your league.

Ed. Note- We had previously stated that you qualified by going .500 or winning your league, but a team only needs to finish in the Top-2 of its league to make the tournament, regardless of record.

Now, let's take a look at who's in, who's out, and who still has work to do.

Division 2 Central/West

Already In (6):
Algonquin (12-5), Marlboro (14-2), St. John's (11-5), Tantasqua (12-6), Wachusett (11-8), Westboro (13-2)

Almost There (1): Worcester (8-7)

On the Bubble (0): None

Eliminated (6): Fitchburg (0-13), Leominster (8-11), North Middlesex (6-10), Nashoba (3-16), Shepherd Hill (8-11), Shrewsbury (7-11)

Tantasqua is a new qualifier in this district, but it was largely a bloody week for D2 Central/West, as North Middlesex, Shepherd Hill and Shrewsbury were all eliminated in the last seven days. The only team left with work to do is Worcester, which needs to win one out of its final three games. With contests against struggling Milford, St. Peter-Marian and Northbridge, WooLax would seem to be in good shape.

Division 3 Central/West

Already In (5):
Blackstone Valley Tech (8-7), Grafton (13-4), Monty Tech (10-7), Nipmuc (11-6), St. Bernard's (13-5)

Almost There (0): None

On the Bubble (1): Advanced Math and Science Academy (6-9)

Eliminated (4):
Assabet (2-10), Nashoba Valley Tech (7-10), Northbridge (5-10), St. Peter-Marian (1-12)

Monty Tech and Nipmuc each punched their tickets last week, while Northbridge succumbed to elimination. AMSA remains alive, but the Eagles will need to win all three of their games this week.

AMSA will host Norton today, followed by a trip to Fitchburg Wednesday, and a home finale against Nashoba Valley Tech on Thursday. Win 'em all, and the Eagles are in.

Division 3 Central/East

Already In (4):
Groton-Dunstable (11-6), Littleton (16-2), Lunenburg (7-9), Tyngsboro (15-4)

Almost There (0): None

On the Bubble (2): Bromfield (7-9), Hopedale (9-10)

Eliminated (2):
Hudson (4-12), Oakmont (5-9)

Lunenburg qualified by clinching second-place in Mid-Wach C last week, while Oakmont's three losses eliminated the Spartans.

Bromfield and Hopedale remain alive, but neither can afford a loss. Bromfield must defeat Oakmont at home Tuesday, then win at St. Peter-Marian on Thursday. Hopedale, meanwhile, needs to win Tuesday's home game against St. Bernard's to get in.
