Walpole is the top seed in what should be an exciting Division 2 Central/East section.

A disclaimer: Brackets for the 2017 boys' lacrosse tournament aren't finalized until tomorrow. That said, we've just finished up seeding the Division 2 Central/East section, and here are a few quick thoughts.

 Walpole the favorites?

With one loss all season, coming in a three-goal game against Needham, the Rebels have stormed through their schedule to earn the top seed. In a bracket where Medfield has reigned for three seasons, Walpole is looking to buck that trend.

Wins over Wellesley, Franklin, Natick, and Newton North have been impressive for a team that has multiple options to score and a solid defense. The Rebels did not allow more than ten goals all season.

Hopkinton Ready for Primetime?

The Hillers went on a run at the end of the season that included two victories over Medfield, but then dropped two of their final three games of the season to Dover-Sherborn and Westwood.

Westwood topped Hopkinton twice to make up for the Hillers’ four losses; the other came to D-S, as well. Other than those teams, and Medfield, however, Hopkinton hasn’t exactly played a strenuous schedule. Are the Hillers ready to build off their victories against the defending state champs and go on a run?

Don’t Overlook Medfield

Even as the three-time defending state champions, Medfield has found itself in a different spot. With six losses this season, already one more than their entire last season, the Warriors dropped two late season games to Hopkinton. An impressive victory over Westwood, and an OT defeat of New Hampshire’s Pinkerton Academy revived them, but the Warriors then fell to BC High on the last day of the regular season.

Other than Hopkinton, however, the only two in-state losses for the Warriors came against BC High and Duxbury in what has been a tough schedule. Medfield may have dropped to the two seed, and has shown some flaws, but they still are going to make some noise.
