The first week in February has become synonymous with college football signings, as the traditional National Signing Day was when high school athletes could finally officially commit to where they will spend their next four years.

Today, December 20th, however, gave athletes the first “early” opportunity to solidify what has been, for a long period of time now, a simple verbal guarantee.

Across Massachusetts a number of the most notable high school recruits today signed their National Letters of Intent, officially fulfilling their obligation.

Notably, Bridgewater-Raynham linebacker and fullback Bryce Shaw signed with the United States Naval Academy, while Brighton tight end Jerrod Clark cemented his future with Coastal Carolina.

Division 1 North Sectional Final participants Everett and Central Catholic each had several signees. Crimson Tide wide receiver Isaiah Likely will join Clark at Coastal Carolina, while Everett defensive back Jason Maitre (Boston College) and David Zorrilla (Bryant) also signed their NLIs. Meanwhile, Raiders quarterback Bret Edwards and lineman Osho Omoyeni are both headed to the University of New Hampshire.

Speaking of Coastal Carolina, the Chanticleers found another potential Bay State gem in the form of Springfield Central alum Tank Walker, who just completed a post grad season at Milford Academy in New York.

Shaw said that being able to continue his football career at Navy is nothing short of a dream come true.

“To finally get this over with and get finished up with it is unreal,” said Shaw. “It’s a crazy feeling and I cannot wait to play there the next four years. I am just ready to get after it.”

Bryant is sure to be excited about the recruiting class they have coming in as Marshfield running Jack McNeil, Catholic Memorial wide receiver Jarrett Martin, and Andover lineman Payton Heidtke will join Zorrilla as future Bulldogs who signed their NLIs on Wednesday.

Then there is the Somerville offensive duo of quarterback Elijah Jeffreys and running back Jiovanny Pierre. Jeffreys is headed to UConn, while Pierre is off to Central Connecticut.

Nantucket star and SuiteSports All-State defensive lineman Nick Correia signed with Rhode Island, while East Longmeadow defensive back Elijah Johnson will stay local and play for UMass.

Over in the ISL, tight end/fullback Jay Symonds of BB&N signed his NLI to play for Pac 12 and academic power Stanford, while the Lawrence Academy trio of Ryan Betro, Finn Dirstine, and Joey Luchetti are all staying in-state and attending Boston College.

Brooks’ star tight end Pat Freiermuth etched his placement on Penn State’s 2018-19 football roster, and Jake Bobo of Belmont Hill is officially headed to Duke, while St. Sebastian's defensive lineman Jon Pace is off to UConn.
