Cohasset tops Dover-Sherborn for D3 Boys' Lax Championship

BOSTON
- In perhaps the best Division 3 rivalry in Massachusetts lacrosse, Cohasset topped old nemesis Dover-Sherborn, 10-6, at Boston University's Nickerson Field. The win avenges a 2015 state semifinal defeat to D-S, and gives the Skippers their first state title since defeating the Raiders in 2014.

"I'll remember that (2015 loss to D-S) forever," Cohasset senior Will Thomas said. "We wanted payback, and I guess we got that."

The Skippers started quickly, scoring five in a row before Timothy Polk finally got the Raiders on the board with a single second left in the first quarter. After intermission, D-S drew closer, with back-to-back goals, but a late third quarter run pushed the Skippers to a title.

Clinging to a 6-4 lead, Cohasset scored three in a row to create some breathing room, as brothers Gray and Will Thomas opened and closed the period with goals. Dover-Sherborn star Jack Dillon opened the fourth with back-to-back scores, but Will Thomas closed the door with an absolute snipe with four minutes to play.

"My fellow senior captains, we've played together since we were in third grade," the elder Thomas added. "Such a special moment just to cherish it with all our brothers... Literally all 15 seniors are best friends."

Cohasset goalie Mason Fitzgerald also had a sterling afternoon, finishing with 15 saves, including six in a brilliant first quarter.

"I can't give enough credit to my defense," Will Thomas said. "Mason played out of his mind, he's been doing it all season, all playoffs. I can't give enough credit to all of those guys."
