Lobel's Question of the Week: Vinatieri or Gostkowski?

Every week, legendary sportscaster Bob Lobel wants to hear your opinion on something that caught his eye over the weekend.

There hasn’t been a time that Adam Vinatieri has walked onto the field that a feeling hasn’t stirred inside my fan parts. My fan parts remember him as the guy that made the biggest plays in the biggest games we have witnessed.

That would include the final game played over a decade ago at Sullivan/Schaeffer Stadium. He always maintains his biggest kick was in that snow against the Raiders.  He won many games here and I can’t remember any he lost.

My fan parts find it really bizarre that the guy who replaced him, Steven Gostkowski, may actually be a better kicker.

That statement goes against all logic, only because you can’t remember any big kicks in any big games that Vinatieri missed. While Gostkowski has that powerful accurate leg, and while I also can’t remember any big games he lost,  why can’t I remember any big games he won?

I’ll blame my fan parts for that, but I’m sure I’m not alone.  I will ask you straight out the dumb question of 2015. But is it really a dumb question?  Is Vinatieri the obvious answer I think most people will give?  I would probably say Adam too, but the other guy, the one that replaced him, is pretty good too.

I guess you cant make important kicks if the opportunity doesn’t present itself.

So, which is the better kicker? Vinatieri or Gostkowski.

Ed. Note- While this may seem like a no-brainer, Bob is onto something here. Vinatieri certainly has a big-kick resume unlike any kicker in league history, but Gostkowski's numbers in a Patriots uniform are actually better than the New England Super Bowl hero's. Here are both players' Patriot numbers for you to compare.

Note that these are only Vinatieri's New England numbers because the question is who is the better Patriots kicker.
