Postgame Blog: Bromfield Girls' Lax Tops Grafton in Battle of Familiar Foes

By Connor Evans (@RonnocEvans)

GRAFTON - No. 2 seed Grafton played host to 7th-seeded Bromfield Saturday.

A hard fought battle by two very familiar rivals would end up with Bromfield walking off the field victorious, hanging on to win 11-8.

The Indians and Trojans took the field fired up today. Both teams were very boisterous and excited for a shot at each other in the playoffs. It’s almost become a tradition for these teams. After a first half of back-and-forth scoring, Bromfield put on a little run, giving the Spartans a comfortable 11-5 lead.

Starting with about 7 minutes left on the clock, however, Grafton found its own rhythm. Scoring 3 unanswered, the Indians looked poised to make a comeback.

Bromfield wouldn’t be shaken, though. Its defense locked down and held back Grafton’s offense to ice the game

Coach Dave Planchet was quite pleased with his team’s effort after the game.

“I’m proud. Every time we play Grafton, it’s a dog fight… I’m tremendously proud.”

He was also complementary of the Grafton program that put up a great fight.

“They (Grafton) took our top two scorers out. They did a great job. We had to have a lot of our girls step up in the big moment, and they did.”

Getting this win under their belt has to feel great for Bromfield, a team that was seeded lower than its talent level due to an incredibly challenging schedule.

“(This win) vindicates a little bit of what we’ve accomplished this season. Beating a great Grafton team, it’s something to be proud of,” said Planchet.

Tough way to end the season for the Indians, but a light senior class leaves Grafton pretty well loaded for a run next year.

As for Bromfield, look for this team to go on a run. This is a determined group with the talent to play with the best.
