BC High Finally Downs Xaverian For Perfect Regular Season

BOSTON — If there were any remaining questions about BC High’s status as the top team in Division 1 South, the Eagles answered them on Friday night.

Led by a pair of third quarter touchdowns from Danny Abraham the Eagles came back to knock off Catholic Conference foe Xaverian, 17-6, at Viola Stadium.

The win snaps an eight game losing streak for BC High versus the Hawks, clinches them the top seed in Division 1 South heading into the postseason, and guarantees them a share of the Catholic Conference title.

“This has been great a regular season,” BC High head coach John Bartlett said. “As I havesaid this is a mentally tough and physical team. They are always focused. The senior leadership has been outstanding and I give them a lot of the credit.”

It is the first time BC High (7-0, 3-0) has gone undefeated in the regular season in over 15 years.

The four time defending south sectional champion Hawks showcased their well known physicality and defensive capabilities in the opening half. Xaverian held BC High to just 36 total yards of offense through the first two quarters.

In the third stanza, however, Abraham came to life.

After rushing for 22 yards on the first play from scrimmage, Abraham received the handoff once again and busted free up the middle for a 56 yard touchdown run to give BC High a 7-3 lead.

Later in the quarter Xaverian seemed to be in line to get good field position when their defense forced a BC High punt.

While attempting a fair catch the punt was muffed and recovered by BC High’s James DeStefanis.

The crucial turnover proved to be the knife in the coffin for the Hawks.

Two players later, Abraham bounced outside and took off for a 15 yard score to give the Eagles a 14-3 lead.

Abraham (170 yards, 2 TDs) and quarterback Will Bowen (59 yards) combined for 229 yards on the ground giving the Eagles their seventh consecutive game of rushing for 200 yards or more.

“I put a lot on my shoulders in that second half,” Abraham said. “Some things were not working in the second half and I told our coaches to give it to me in the second half.”

Xaverian made it a one possession game midway through the fourth quarter on a 35-yard field goal by Brian Fallon.

The Eagles quickly retained control as an Abraham 46 yard run on the Eagles next drive set up a 21 yard field goal by Enrqiue Antelo to give BC High their 11 point edge back and all but seal the win.
