If MIAA Stars Entered the NFL Draft: 2020 Edition

Two-time defending Division 1 state champion St. John's Prep is well represented in our MIAA/NFL Mock Draft.

With the NFL Draft officially up and running, SuiteSports is back with its annual MIAA/NFL Draft.

A reminder of the rules for players being taken in our MIAA/NFL Draft:

1. The player must be a senior. I know college juniors (and redshirt sophomores) can be taken in the real NFL Draft, but that's not how our draft works.

2. The player can be headed to prep school next year. Since we don't include ISL or other Prep School players in our draft, guys who are finishing up their MIAA careers and graduating from an MIAA school get the chance to be drafted.

3. We're keeping our mock draft to two rounds this year, although we did throw in a simulated trade for the first time. Otherwise, the order is listed as it was heading into the first night of the NFL Draft.

4. We are not pretending our 2017, 2018, and 2019 MIAA/NFL Drafts actually happened. 

5. Any complaints? We're all ears.

Tewksbury Shows Defense Travels, Redmen Shutout BC High

Dorchester, Mass. – One week after the Tewksbury offense carried the load, the Redmen defense took center stage.

Jay Connolly totaled a pair of second half scores, while Tewksbury’s defense permitted just 62 net yards to lead the No. 20 Redmen to a 12-0 road win over No. 24 BC High on Friday night at James Cotter field.

Throughout the night, the Redmen (3-0) defense suffocated an Eagles’ attack that tried to generate momentum on the ground. BC High recorded just three first downs and never moved inside the Tewksbury 40-yard line.

MIAA Football: Top Five Games to Watch in Week Three

In similar fashion to week one, week three carries with it a bevy of high-profile matchups as teams either finish off their non-league schedules in style or head into league play with plenty on the line

For the second week in a row, No. 1 Everett is playing in our top game to watch when they host No. 6 St. John's Prep. A Patriot League Keenan battle, two big non-league contests, and a Hockomock Kelley-Rex showdown highlight our other four games to keep an eye on.

BC High Tops Catholic Memorial at Fenway for Catholic Conference Crown

BOSTON -Will Bowen and the BC High front seven left little doubt this time around against rival Catholic Memorial.

Bowen totaled 160 yards and three touchdowns, while the Eagle defense finished with six sacks and three turnovers to lead BC High to a 32-16 win over the Knights to claim the Catholic Conference title on Tuesday night at Fenway Park.

The game was a rematch of just 18 days ago, when Catholic Memorial (6-5) defeated the Eagles (10-1) by a point on a last second Hail Mary to knock BC High out of the postseason.

BC High Finally Downs Xaverian For Perfect Regular Season

BOSTON — If there were any remaining questions about BC High’s status as the top team in Division 1 South, the Eagles answered them on Friday night.

Led by a pair of third quarter touchdowns from Danny Abraham the Eagles came back to knock off Catholic Conference foe Xaverian, 17-6, at Viola Stadium.

The win snaps an eight game losing streak for BC High versus the Hawks, clinches them the top seed in Division 1 South heading into the postseason, and guarantees them a share of the Catholic Conference title. 

Bowen's Last-Minute Switch to QB Makes BC High a True Contender

Coming off a 2016 campaign that saw BC High reach their second south sectional final in three years, expectations for 2017 were at an all-time high.

Highly regarded running back Danny Abraham committed to Harvard in the spring after a flurry of interest across college football, and offensive lineman Tommy Aicardi soon followed suit. Will Bowen had established himself as a two way-threat and Bobby DeMeo developed into one of the more athletic and dynamic defensive backs in Massachusetts. Francis Dooley and Elijah Miranda were set to constitute a veteran and dangerous defensive line.

Yet, in the lead up the 2017 season, the Eagles received disheartening news when starting quarterback Matt Sullivan was sidelined with a back injury that was going to curtail him for at least the regular season.

The preseason played out with BC High coach John Bartlett exploring a number of options, but none of them appeared serviceable enough to make the Eagles a legitimate contender in Division 1.

Just a week prior to the Eagles opener versus Andover, and on the verge of not having a quarterback, Bowen approached Bartlett and offered to take on the reigns.

BC High Rushing Attack Continues to Roll in Win Over Marshfield

BOSTON - Will Bowen put on a showcase to all in attendance that BC High has more to its identity than just Danny Abraham.

Bowen ran for 131 yards and a touchdown as part of a ground attack that included Abraham and Bobby DeMeo as the Eagles got past Division 2 power Marshfield, 19-7, on Friday night at Boston College High School.

The conditions were slick all evening long, with rain pouring down from the start of the game’s pre game festivities. The wet weather made throwing nearly impossible for both sides causing the teams to resort to their top level running games.

The No. 2 Eagles (2-0) got the better end of it, as the trio of Bowen, Abraham, and DeMeo combined to run for 220 yards on the evening.

MIAA Football Top 25: Week 2

St. John's (Shrewsbury) dominated Catholic Memorial from the opening kick Friday night.

1. Everett (1-0; Last Week – 1) The Crimson Tide rolled its chief rival in emphatic fashion, downing Xaverian 31-7 in the opener, and the final margin could've been even greater. Not a missing a beat with Jake Wilcox taking over under center, Everett is the clear-cut favorite to repeat as Division 1 champion. 

Danny Abraham Runs wild on Andover in Season Opener... Again

ANDOVER - Next year, Boston College High running back Danny Abraham will be playing football at Harvard, and no team will be happier to see him go than Andover.

The Eagles starting running back dismantled the Golden Warriors defense in a second consecutive season opener, rushing for 262 yards and four touchdowns, on just 12 carries, to pace BC High in a 34-7 drubbing of Andover on the road. 

Abraham, who set a school record with 385 rushing yards and four touchdowns in the season opener against Andover last season, has now compiled 647 yards and eight scores, at the absurd rate of 22.3 yards per carry, the last two years against the Golden Warriors' defense.

MIAA Football Camp Road Trip: The BC High Eagles

BOSTON - In each of the last four seasons, BC High has seen its football season start in promising fashion, only for it to come to a crashing halt at the hands of a Catholic Conference opponent.

Three of the last four years, the Eagles have seen a potential Division 1 State championship appearance go by the boards, thwarted by a Xaverian dynasty that saw the Hawks reach four straight state finals.

Twice, including last year, the defeat came in the South Sectional Title game.

However, behind a strong returning core, highlighted by Harvard bound running back Danny Abraham, the 2017 Eagles may be poised to return to the state championship for the first time since 2011.
