If MIAA Stars Entered the NFL Draft: 2020 Edition

Two-time defending Division 1 state champion St. John's Prep is well represented in our MIAA/NFL Mock Draft.

With the NFL Draft officially up and running, SuiteSports is back with its annual MIAA/NFL Draft.

If you need to get caught up, you can find our 2017 MIAA/NFL Draft here, our 2018 edition here, and lastly our 2019 draft here.

A reminder of the rules for players being taken in our MIAA/NFL Draft:

1. The player must be a senior. I know college juniors (and redshirt sophomores) can be taken in the real NFL Draft, but that's not how our draft works.

2. The player can be headed to prep school next year. Since we don't include ISL or other Prep School players in our draft, guys who are finishing up their MIAA careers and graduating from an MIAA school get the chance to be drafted.

3. We're keeping our mock draft to two rounds this year, although we did throw in a simulated trade for the first time. Otherwise, the order is listed as it was heading into the first night of the NFL Draft.

4. We are not pretending our 2017, 2018, and 2019 MIAA/NFL Drafts actually happened. 

5. Any complaints? We're all ears.

MIAA Football: State Semifinal Picks

Star junior J.D. Antaya hopes to lead Blackstone Valley Tech back to Gillette, and he will have his hands full against a dominant Wahconah team. That game is a rematch of last year's D7 state semifinal, won by BVT. Now, the Beavers and the Warriors both have state title aspirations after dominant 2018 campaigns.

We have reached state semifinal weekend in the MIAA Football season with 10 teams hoping to join six others who have already cemented their placement at Gillette Stadium.

As we head into the final three weekends of the football season, here are how our two editors stack up as it pertains to their picks for the season:

MIAA Football: State Semifinal Primer

Springfield Central hopes to exert revenge on St. John's in this year's Div. 3 State Semifinals.

On Friday, Scituate captured its first sectional title in program history but they hope that was simply a pit stop ontheir road to a championship.

Behind quarterback Aidan Sullivan the Sailors have more than enough in the tank to take home the Div. 5 Super Bowl.

Scituate's lone loss came against Div. 3 South champion Duxbury earlier this season, 35-23. In the postseason, they have performed well under pressure when needed with Sullivan leading Scituate on a 97-yard, game-winning drive in the Sailors opening round win over Dennis-Yarmouth. Surrounding Sullivan is breakout junior running back Will Sheskey. The two form a one-two punch for an offense that has scored 106 points so far this postseason.

MIAA Football: Super Bowl and State Semifinal Schedule

Ahead of the upcoming state semifinal games across Massachusetts, here is the full schedule of games set to be played on Friday and Saturday.

Those in Divisions 1 and 2 have already clinched a spot in the Super Bowl, while 10 state semifinal games will be played this weekend to determine the five other teams that will appear at Gillette Stadium.

South champions Dighton-Rehoboth (Div. 4) and Old Rochester (Div. 6) receive a bye to the Super Bowl.

MIAA Football: Sectional Final Podcast

Shrewsbury quarterback Drew Campanale is hoping this year's go around versus St. John's is closer to 2016 than 2017 for the Colonials.

It's sectional final weekend across Massachusetts with 52 different teams hoping to be crowned champions by the time Saturday night rolls around.

For those in Divisions 1 and 2 as well Divisions 4 and 6 South a win this weekend would clinch an appearance in their respective super bowls at Gillette Stadium.

Otherwise, this weekend serves as a chance for teams to advance to the state semi-finals where they would be one win away from a state championship berth.

Heading into a weekend that is filled with league rivalries, rematches from past years, and star players, here are our top five sectional final matchups to watch.

If King Philip hopes to repeat as Super Bowl champions for a third straight year, they will have to get it done on the road.

Each team's seed in their respective section is located to left of their team name, while the team's ranking in our final regular season Top 25 Poll released last week where applicable is in parenthesis on the right.

MIAA Football: Top 25 Poll Week Seven

Holliston storms into our Top 25 Poll for the first time this season after capturing the TVL Large title.

With the MIAA Football regular season set to wind down this weekend for all teams across the state, SuiteSports is ready to unveil its final top 25 poll until the conclusion of the postseason.

In our final regular season poll, the top five remains the same although there is some re-shuffling as North Andover moves into the No. 2 spot for the first time this season. Natick catapults into the top 10 due its blazing finish to the season, while Walpole appears for the first time all season at No. 18 following a huge win over Needham.

Holliston, meanwhile, also makes its first appearance of the 2018 season as terrific line play cemented a TVL Large title and clinched the No. 2 seed in Div. 5 South.

It will be awfully hard for anything to top last week's slate of games, but this weekend's schedule poses some interesting matchups.

While some leagues inch closer towards determining a champion, other teams are taking a week off from conference play to go up against top-tier non-league opponents.

Editor Joe Parello and myself will have all our picks out for this weekend's top games out tomorrow, but until then here are our top five matchups to watch in week five.

John Roberts Does it All As Duxbury Sprints Past Bridgewater-Raynham

Bridgewater, Mass. – John Roberts made sure Duxbury’s first decision of the season was  unanimous.

Roberts finished 8-for-12, throwing for 187 yards and finishing with six total touchdowns as No. 20 Duxbury defeated Bridgewater-Raynham, 40-14, on Thursday night at Bridgewater-Raynham High School.  

Roberts hooked up with junior wide receiver Will Prouty early and often throughout Thursday’s contest. The six-foot-one wideout finished with five catches for 114 yards and two touchdowns.

North Attleboro Throttles Duxbury in D3 South Final

NORTH ATTLEBORO — Back-to-back years of playoff frustration at the hands of Duxbury melted away for the North Attleboro Red Rocketeers on Friday night, as they romped the third-seeded Dragons, 35-0, in the Division 3 South title game.

More aptly, North Attleboro (9-1) put a deep freeze on Duxbury (8-2) – temperatures were in the 20s at kickoff – thanks to a prolific running attack and timely passing game.

Duxbury Downs Rival Hingham in D3 South Semis

Duxbury, Mass. - Friday night served as redemption for the Duxbury High football team.

In their past two games headed into Friday, their offense had not produced at the level they were accustomed to, scoring just 23 points. That all changed in their bout with the No. 3 Hingham Harbormen in the MIAA Division 3 South Semifinal, as the Dragons came up with a 38-13 win at home.

“The kids did a phenomenal job prepping for this one,” Duxbury head coach Dave Maimaron said. “We worked hard at practice all week and it paid off tonight.”

Bridgewater-Raynham Wins Season Opening Slugfest at Duxbury

DUXBURY - You may have heard this one before.

The Bridgewater-Raynham High football team knocked off a defending state champ for the second year in a row. Last year, the Trojans topped Xaverian. This year, it was the Duxbury Dragons on the road in their opener on Friday night.

Shutting down the Dragons' passing game in the second half was the difference-maker, as the BR grinded its way to a 20-10 win.

DUXBURY - 2016 was last year.

Well, obviously, but, after winning a Division 2 State title last season, the 2017 Duxbury High football team is now looking to forge its own identity.

Following last season, the Dragons lost three of the state’s top skill players to graduation: Quarterback Bobby Maimaron (who set the statewide record with 122 touchdown passes in his varsity football career), star wide receiver Ryan Reagan, and do-it-all running back Devin DeMeritt, and there is nothing they can do about it.

Ryan Reagan Not Done at Duxbury, But Prepared for Harvard

A terrific athletic year for Duxbury wide receiver Ryan Reagan just keeps on getting better.

On Wednesday with his family and head coach Dave Maimaron in attendance, Reagan officially committed to continue his football career at Harvard University.

It has been quite the past couple months for Reagan, who back in December helped propel the Dragons to the Division 2 state championship, catching eight passes for 155 yards and three touchdowns at Gillette Stadium. Most recently, while a member of the Duxbury varsity basketball team, Reagan scored 30 points and grabbed 24 rebounds to spearhead a 73-64 upset of Brighton.

Reagan, who announced a verbal commitment to play for the Crimson Tide in October, said Harvard made a big impression on him from the get-go.
