Div. 3 Central Preview: Shrewsbury Looks To Take Back Town Against No. 2 St. John's

For the third straight year, crosstown rivals St. John's and Shrewsbury will faceoff with a chance to send the other team home.

Everybody knows that when Saint Johns and Shrewsbury play each other, in any sport, it’s guaranteed to be an absolute battle until the clock strikes zero. 

That only intensifies when these crosstown rivals matchup in the playoffs, this time, in the Division 3 Central Mass Championship game. 

Third-seeded Saint John’s (6-3) will take on No. 4 Shrewsbury (7-2) on Saturday, November 10th at 2 p.m. at Doyle Field in Leominster. Saint John’s only losses on the year have come at the hands of Catholic Memorial, Springfield Central, and Marlborough, while Shrewsbury’s two losses were to the aforementioned Pioneers and Nashoba.

Throughout this season, SuiteSports has taken the liberty of releasing our picks for the top slate of games on Thursday, so we figured now that the postseason is upon us, there's no reason for us to change course.

Have no fear, our complete breakdown of the Div. 7 and 8 EMass. tournaments will be out tomorrow morning. For now, however, our editors have their picks for the top Eastern Mass. postseason games and those out in Central and Western Mass. that carry the biggest playoff implications.

Last week, Matt added another game to his advantage finishing 7-2 for the week while Joe ended at 6-3.

Here is how the standings shakeout as we head towards the postseason:

Shrewsbury, Mass. - In a shootout that lived up to all the pregame hype, St. John's (Shrewsbury) topped rival Shrewsbury, 42-34, Saturday afternoon on its newly renovated Pioneer Field.

Groton, Mass. – On Friday night, Shrewsbury picked up a key road win, defeating Groton-Dunstable, 42-14, Here’s how it happened!

On Shrewsbury’s first possession, John White found a hole and ran 79 yards for a touchdown giving the Colonials a 7-0 lead. 

Shrewsbury proceeded to excute an onside kick to perfection, with the Colonials’ Ben Harris recovering, giving them the ball back just inside the 50. Shrewsbury’s Alex Cashman capitalized with a score of his own to put Shrewsbury up 14-0 early on.
