Shane Frommer Leads King Philip Back to D2 Super Bowl

By Matt Feld (@mattyfeld612)

WRENTHAM — As Shane Frommer exited the postgame huddle with his teammates, his pads were covered in blood. Full smiles, panting in excitement through the freezing cold air, the King Philip running back could not have cared less about the red on his gold and green uniform.

In a near replica of last year's sectional final, Frommer ran for 203 yards and three touchdowns on Friday night to lead No. 1 King Philip to a 29-19 win over No. 3 Bridgewater-Raynham in the Division 2 South Sectional Final at King Philip Regional High School.

The win advances the defending state champion Warriors (10-0) to their second straight Super Bowl while also increasing their winning streak to 23 games.

Postgame Blog: Bishop Fenwick Rolls in Division 5 Final

Bishop Fenwick after their Division 5 Super Bowl win.
By Joe Parello  @HerewegoJoe

What had the look of an intriguing Division 5 championship game quickly turned into a route as Bishop Fenwick toppled Northbridge 28-0.

The loss ended a season of resilience from the Rams, who battled back from a 1-2 start to capture a Central Mass crown, and punched their ticket to Gillette Stadium with a dramatic last-minute win over Hoosac Valley two weeks ago.

For Bishop Fenwick, it was a day of respect rightfully earned. The Crusaders proved they are in a class of their own in Division 5, and their physicality on both sides of the ball was simply too much for the Rams.

Postgame Blog: Mansfield Tops St. John's for D2 State Championship

Mansfield celebrates a state championship in Division 2.

St. John's came into Saturday's Division 2 state championship game against Mansfield as the proverbial "hot team" in the state, but were cooled off by a fast and aggressive Hornets team that bested them 28-14.

It was a rough end for a Pioneer squad that achieved so much this season, including knocking off rival Leominster in the D2 Central final, and scoring a massive win over power Springfield Central in the state semifinal.

Postgame Blog: Doherty Completes Journey, Wins D4 Crown

Doherty celebrates with the Division 4 championship trophy.

The 2013 Doherty Highlanders are a greedy bunch.

Capturing the school's first Central Mass title in 33 years simply wasn't good enough for them, so they won the inaugural Division 4 state championship in the second game at Gillette Stadium Saturday.

The Highlanders had the feel of a "team of destiny" all year long, and that destiny was realized in a 28-26 thriller of a win over D4 East champion Dennis-Yarmouth.

The Tigers of Littleton got Central Mass off to a great start on Super Saturday, running past D6 East champion Cohasset 52-25 in the early game at Gillette Stadium.

Littleton jumped up to a 22-0, but a series of Tiger turnovers allowed the Skippers to creep back in and cut the deficit to 30-20 by halftime. Still, a third quarter onslaught by the Tiger offense buried Cohasset, and made the Tigers the first ever Division 6 state football champions.

Massachusetts Super Bowl Previews: Divisions 1-3

Expect points galore when St. John's and QB Drew Smiley battle high-powered Mansfield.
By Joe Parello  @HerewegoJoe

A dozen high school teams from Eastern and Central Mass have finished their journeys down the #RoadToGillette, and are now preparing for the first state-wide football championships in Massachusetts history.

As you may or may not know, I've spent the majority of the year covering Central Mass. So, I will briefly touch on the exclusively Eastern Mass title games (Divisions 1 and 3), but give far more in-depth previews of the games that include teams from the heart of the Commonwealth.

So, here it is, Part I of everything you need to know about Super Bowl Saturday at Gillette Stadium this weekend.
