Needham Rolls Past New Bedford into D1 South Semifinals

Needham, Mass. - Needham and New Bedford were supposed to face off in round two of the MIAA division one south tournament Friday night. However, a rain storm with high winds rolled into the New England area, which cancelled the game on Friday and again on Saturday when there was no power at Needham High School.

It was clear that the delay had one team starving to get on the court. That team was the Needham Rockets, who blitzed New Bedford with 17 straight points to start the game and never looked back. The Rockets won by a score of 82-48, and will take on Brockton in the Division 1 South semifinals on Tuesday night in Taunton.

Edgehill, Mahon Lead the Way as Franklin Tops New Bedford

Franklin, Mass. - While the Whalers tried to set the pace, it was Franklin that lit up the scoreboard.

Chris Edgehill scored 24 points, while Paul Mahon chipped in 18 more, to lead Franklin past visiting New Bedford, 76-65, in the semifinals of the Harvey Nasuti Basketball Classic at Franklin High School.

The Panthers advance to play No. 1 Tech Boston in the championship game tomorrow at 2 p.m.
