Recruiting Update: UConn Visits Kevin Mensah

With less than three weeks until National Signing Day, things are starting to heat up for Shepherd Hill running back Kevin Mensah, who was visited in school today by UConn tight ends coach Corey Edsall, the son of recently re-hired Husky coach Randy Edsall.

The elder Edsall, who originally coached the Huskies from 1998 to 2010, and again became UConn's head coach last month, followed up with Mensah in late December to let him know UConn is still interested. The head coach and Mensah scheduled an official visit to Storrs for the weekend of January 28th, and the younger Edsall made the trip to Dudley to chat with Mensah today.

Before you start with the "it's the 3rd round" nonsense, just understand that you are wrong.

We have not played two rounds of basketball, we have played a few preliminary games and a full round. Coastal Carolina didn't earn a bye, and neither did Wofford, so the NCAA can continue this "say it's a round later than it actually is" farce, but we're not drinking that Kool-Aid here at SuiteSports!

Leicester's Rodrick Still Committed to UConn

Shortly after his team's 15-6 victory over rival Auburn, Leicester fullback/linebacker Tom Rodrick took some time to talk about his commitment to Connecticut, in the wake of the program firing coach Paul Pasqualoni.

Rodrick, who rushed for a touchdown, recorded 11 tackles and blocked an extra point in the Wolverines' statement win, emphasized that he remains committed to the Huskies, but that he will be paying close attention to the UConn coaching search.

The new American Athletic Conference was born out of the great schism between the Big East's "Catholic 7" and the conference's not-so-Catholic, football playing members.

Those seven schools chose to separate and form a league for "basketball-minded schools" (No, the ridiculousness of Catholic institutions calling themselves basketball-minded is not lost on me), and they took the Big East name with them.

Left in their wreckage is the AAC, a conference now comprised of teams on their way to the greener pastures of more powerful conferences (Louisville and Rutgers), teams desperately trying to follow those schools out the door (Cincinnati and UConn), a late Big East addition stuck in limbo (South Florida), a team the Big East once cast off (Temple), and a horde of former Conference USA squads (Central Florida, Houston, Memphis and SMU).
