Arlington Catholic GHOOPS Runs Away from Foxboro Late

BOSTON - The third quarter may have been one to forget, but the final eight minutes for Arlington Catholic will go down in history.

Behind 11 points and 14 rebounds from Lena Perez, including the game-tying bucket in the fourth quarter, the Cougars overcame a scoreless third quarter to take down Foxboro, 37-30, in the Division 2 Girls Eastern Mass finals on Monday night at the TD Garden.

Foxboro (22-3) led 26-19 entering the final stanza, but the Cougars (18-7) clawed their way back and closed the game on an 18-4 run.

Woburn Punches Ticket to Another D1 North Final With Win Over Central Catholic

HAVERHILL, Mass. - The Woburn girls’ high school basketball team is heading back to the Division 1 North finals.

The defending sectional champions advanced to the state quarterfinals by besting No. 7 Central Catholic, 65-44, in the Division 1 North semifinals at Whittier Tech on Monday night. 

While third-seeded Woburn (20-3) was led as usual by star senior point guard Marissa Gattuso, the Tanners floor general struggled out of the gates, committing three turnovers while missing all three of her field goal attempts in the first quarter.

Yet she found her rhythm with seven points in the second quarter and wound up with a game-high 16 points, adding five rebounds, five assists and four steals as the Tanners won going away.

Mansfield Girls Hoops Makes Hockomock Statement, Hands Attleboro First Loss

MANSFIELD, Mass. - If you wanted to know who the top girls’ basketball team in the Hockomock League is, Tuesday night provided some insight.

Specifically, the Mansfield Hornets’ road bout with the Attleboro Bombardiers showed the Hornets (7-2) were superior, at least on Wednesday night. Playing tough man-to-man defense, the Hornets came away with a 61-30 win, handing the Bombardiers (8-1) their first loss of the season.

Foxboro Girls Hoops too Much for Bridgewater-Raynham

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. - In its trip up MA-24 North for a non-league tilt with Bridgewater-Raynham, Foxboro certainly made the most of its opportunity, posting a 65-36 win over the Trojans Monday evening.

“It feels good,” Foxboro head coach Lisa Downs said of the win. “We’re still getting some games under our belt, we’ve only played five games. We’re still trying to get into the groove of things. We’re still trying to work out some kinks, but I saw some good things, for the most part tonight.”

The lethal backcourt trio of juniors Ashley Sampson and Lily Sykes, along with senior Riley Collins, combined to pump in 41 points - outscoring the Trojans on their own - to guide Foxboro (4-1) to its fourth straight victory.

The Warriors, coming off a 73-34 slashing of league foe Sharon Friday, picked up right where they left off.
