MIAA Football: Thanksgiving Football at Fenway Once Again

High school football is returning to one of baseball's most storied ballparks.

As first reported by Dan Ventura of the Boston Herald, Fenway Park will play host to Thanksgiving Eve football for the third time in four seasons.

This year features three new matchups that are yet to experience the atmosphere that playing football at Fenway brings.

In the doubleheader on Tuesday, the Boston City League will receive representation with Burke facing off against West Roxbury.

Also on Tuesday is expected to be Mansfield-Foxboro. The Hornets who are fighting for a top spot in Div. 2 South, barely hold the all-time series lead, with a 35-33-2 record all-time versus the Warriors.

Then Wednesday features the game that very well may decide the Catholic Conference title with Xaverian taking on St. John's Prep. It's the second time the two will play at Fenway with Xaverian winning back in 2015, 14-0. The Hawks defeated St. John's Prep last season, 30-0, marking their fifth straight win in the series.

Coinciding with the Xaverian-St. John's Prep showdown, Framingham will take on Natick. The two played one another for over a century now, with Natick holding a 75-32-5 lead all-time.

Times have not been announced for games on either of the days.

Mansfield, Mass. -- Unequivocally the premiere game of week two, the No. 3 Mansfield Hornets hosted the reigning defending Division I Super Bowl Champion No. 1 Everett Crimson Tide on Friday evening.

Mike Sainristil's performance alone made sure the game did not disappoint as he compiled 110 receiving yards, two touchdowns, and reeled in three more interceptions to lead Everett past Mansfield, 41-14, in front of a full house at Alumni Field.

In one of the most anticipated games West of 495 this season, Myles Bradley (26) and Springfield Central will take on St. John's (Shrewsbury) in a rematch of last season's D3 state semifinal won by the Pioneers. Will the Golden Eagles get revenge?

Week one featured a loaded slate of high-profile games, with numerous top-25 showdowns.

This weekend also features an exciting list of games, with terrific non-league and cross-divisional meetings. Editor Joe Parello and I will have our picks out tomorrow morning, but before then here are our top five games to watch in week two.

Gill Gives Mansfield Second Wind, Helps Hornets Edge out BC High

Dorchester, Mass. – In a game that seemed destined to come down to its closing moments, Cincere Gill stole the spotlight.

With Mansfield and host BC High tied at seven midway through the fourth, Gill scored a pair of touchdowns over the final seven minutes to lead the Hornets to a 21-7 win over the Eagles on Friday night at James Cotter Field.

Gill highlighted a Mansfield offense that also received productive nights out of two-way star Vinnie Holmes (90 total yards) and Nick Marciano (122 total yards, TD). Hornets quarterback Damani Scott finished with 136 passing yards and a touchdown.

MIAA Football: Our Week One Picks!

It’s officially time for us to introduce our first slate of picks with the MIAA High School Football season just about set to get underway.

While most of the action is slated to take place on Friday or Saturday, No. 20 Duxbury will take a trip to Bridgewater-Raynham tomorrow night, and SuiteSports will be there to provide updates, as well as a recap following the conclusion of the action.

We are officially within 10 days of the 2018 MIAA High School Football season kicking off. 

This year, there won't have to be much waiting around for the top matchups of the season with a plethora of high profile games getting underway in week one.

Within the blink of an eye summer has come to a close and it is time for the MIAA High School Football season to kick into full swing. While high school football camps opened up all over the Bay State on Friday, Monday denotes the first full week of practice for most teams.
