Second Half Surge Pushes Scituate Lax Past Sandwich

SCITUATE - It was a second half breakaway for the Scituate High boys’ lacrosse team in Thursday's MIAA Division 2 South Quarterfinal.

At home, the No. 4 Sailors (13-8) entered the second half up two goals, but it was their five unanswered goals in a nearly 20-minute span in the second half that gave them the edge over the tough and aggressive No. 5 Sandwich Blue Knights (10-9).

Andover Rallies Past Scituate for 3rd Place at Mass Youth Rugby Championships

Worcester, Mass. - The Andover Rugby Union (ARU) club team scored 26 unanswered points to erase a 14-0 deficit and defeat Scituate, 38-19, in the Massachusetts Youth Rugby Organization (MYRO) third-place game on Saturday afternoon at Foley Stadium in Worcester.

Early in the contest, Scituate had success passing the ball and using all parts of the field, allowing Scituate to strike first and open up a 7-0 lead.

The advantage doubled when Scituate forced a fumble and picked the ball up in the end zone for another try. The two-point kick was converted, giving Scituate a 14-0 lead.

Andover would respond with a try by Payton Heidtke, who was helped across the line by a big push from his teammates. Heidtke’s try was set up by a long run by Benjamin Ledoux. The two-point kick cut Scituate’s lead in half.

Lowell Catholic Shoots Past Scituate for a D2 State Title

BOSTON - If you were nitpicking, you could say that the Lowell Catholic boys’ hockey team (20-2-2) did not capitalize on enough 2-on-1 chances in the Division 2 State Championship game at TD Garden on Sunday afternoon.

The Crusaders did, however, capitalize on their most important 2-on-1 opportunity. Specifically, Nathan Donaldson set Alex Graves up for a game-winning score on a 2-on-1 chance with 1:06 remaining in the game. Graves put it past the Scituate Sailor (22-3-1) goaltender, giving his team the go-ahead goal in their 5-4 state title win.

“I was coming in on the goalie,” Graves said, reflecting on his game-winner. “I didn’t know if I was going to fake to my backhand, but I saw the top-right corner and I decided to go for it and it just happened to go in.”
