MIAA Football Camp Road Trip: The Millis Mohawks

MILLIS - After years of coming up just short, the Millis Mohawks finally achieved their goal, winning the Division 4A state championship against Maynard last December at Worcester State.

But, if you were hoping that this small-school power was running out of gas, or that low numbers would take their toll, or that the school's prosperous co-op with Hopedale ending would slow the Mohawks down, you're going to have to keep on waiting.

WORCESTER, Mass.- What a way to end it.

Since 2014, the Millis-Hopedale co-op football team has been dissolving, with incoming classes of Hopedale players joining the Blackstone-Millville-Hopedale co-op. But before the Mohawks (10-3) co-op is totally gone (one player will remain next season), they gave people a reason to remember them on Saturday afternoon at Worcester State University. M-H topped the previously undefeated Maynard Tigers (12-1), 30-18 in the Div. 4A Super Bowl.

“It’s incredible. Going from being a program in 2009 that almost folded to winning a Super Bowl in 2016, I don’t even know what to say right now, I’m just so proud of our kids,” Mohawks head coach Dana Olson said. “It’s truly an unbelievable feeling.”

The 2015 high school football season begins in Massachusetts this weekend, and dozens of teams around the Commonwealth are dreaming of making it to Gillette Stadium for the state championship games.

We kicked things off with our Central Mass Power Rankings yesterday, but now we turn our attention to the Eastern section of the state, where teams will compete across all six divisions for a shot at going to Foxboro.

Again, preseason rankings are usually worthless, but here is our best guess as to which teams rank among the best in Eastern Mass.
