VIDEO: Xaverian Wears down Brockton

Videos by Matt Siegel (@SportVideoMA)

Brockton, Mass. - It was all even for a half, but eventually Xaverian found a way to pull away from feisty Brockton, 14-0, thanks to some stingy defense, and a powerful ground game.

Our Matt Siegel was there to capture all the biggest plays, which you can view below.

Photos By Eamon Convey (@eamonconvey)

BOSTON - Brockton won a last-second thriller against BC High to make an early statement, and you can read a full recap of that game from our Matt Feld here.

But, continue below for images from the Boxers and the Eagles, courtesy of our Eamon Convey. Note that you can click any image to enlarge and launch a slide show.

Brockton Holds Off BC High to Continue Hot Start

By Matt Feld (@mattyfeld612)

BOSTON - For Brockton, the final four minutes felt like four years.

Over the course of the final quarter, the Boxers saw their 17-point lead over BC High shrink to two with just under 20 seconds to go. On the Eagles' final possession, however, the Brockton defense stood firm, blocking BC High’s final prayer to come away with a 55-53 win in a state tournament-like atmosphere Tuesday night at McNeice Pavilion.

BC High Runs Over Brockton at Harvard Stadium

By Matt Feld (@mattyfeld612)

CAMBRIDGE
- Danny Abraham and Tommy Aicardi will both sport a Harvard uniform next fall, and Friday night they looked comfortable on their future home turf.

Abraham rushed for a pair of touchdowns while Aicardi spearheaded a stout Eagles’ offensive line as BC High defeated Brockton, 42-18, at Harvard Stadium.

The contest was played at Harvard Stadium due to planned field renovations on BC High’s home turf.

Will Bowen added three scores while Bobby DeMeo had a 96-yard touchdown run to complement Abraham’s two touchdowns.

Up front, the Eagles continued their stellar play. Behind Aiciardi and the rest of the offensive line, BC High rushed for at least 200 yards for the fourth consecutive game to start the season.

Your MIAA Football Weekend Primer: Week 1

Coach Peter Columbo and his Brockton Boxers hope the last few years' disappointments have made them stronger.
By Marisa Ingemi (@Marisa_Ingemi)

Brockton has used the past two seasons of heartbreak to build up the experience it needs for this year.

After losing key players in each of the past two seasons, including returning quarterback/receiver Junior Montero last season, the Boxers have endured those losses by giving younger players the playing time to develop.

That experience is going to be needed right from the get-go against Lexington in week one.

PHOTO GALLERY: St. John's (S) at Brockton Scrimmage

Photos by Joe Parello (@HerewegoJoe)

The St. John's Pioneers made the long drive from Shrewsbury to Brockton for one of the Bay State's best annual football scrimmages, battling the Boxers at Marciano Stadium.

It was an eventful scrimmage, that saw the St. John's secondary come away with a pair of interceptions, Pioneer quarterback Steven Bucciaglia throwing in midseason form, the Boxer offense make its share of big plays, and Brockton's defensive front showing a great combination of size and speed.

Check out some photos of yesterday's scrimmage below.

Bridgewater-Raynham Pulls Away from Brockton Late

By Tom Joyce (@TomJoyceSports)

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. - The most important score is the one at the end of the game.

Despite their ups and downs, and being tied with four minutes left to play, the Bridgewater-Raynham Trojans boy's basketball team (6-1) came away with an 82-74 win over the Brockton Boxers at home on Tuesday night.

"It's a real good win against a young team," said Trojans head coach Doug Alves. "They're confident and talented. We have an up-tempo style of play we like to use, and it was tough to run that against them."

BC High Flies Past Brockton Into the D1 South Finals

Star running back Danny Abraham and the Eagles soared Friday night against the Boxers.
By Matt Feld (@mattyfeld612)

BOSTON, Mass.
- What a difference two weeks can make.

Just 14 days ago, BC High (6-2) appeared to be teetering. A 38-21 shellacking at the hands of St. John’s Prep and a 17-0 shutout to Catholic Conference foe Xaverian on back-to-back weeks caused the Eagles to finish the regular season with consecutive losses, and many to wonder whether the first four weeks of the season were a mere fluke.

Since then, the Eagles have responded with a vengeance. After a 34-13 piercing of Braintree in the first round of the Division 1 South Sectional playoffs, the Eagles jumped out a 21-0 first half lead behind the play of quarterback Connor Cady, then never looked back en route to a 35-8 thrashing of seventh-seeded Brockton.

Brockton Dominates Newton North in Playoff Win

Brockton coach Pete Columbo talks his team's big win over Newton North.
By Nate Weitzer (@nweitzer7)

NEWTON, Mass. – When it comes time for the MIAA State Tournament, you can throw out all regular season records and begin your evaluations of each Super Bowl hopeful anew.

Brockton (5-3) came into a Division 1 South playoff matchup at No. 2 Newton North (6-2) with an inferior record and a much lower seed, but through 44 minutes of dominant play, the Boxers proved that they were head and shoulders above the competition, as they handled the Tigers 38-9 in a complete team effort.

Eastern Mass HS Football Power Rankings: Week 4

Brockton running back Kerry Raymond
By Joe Parello (@HerewegoJoe)

Much like our Central Mass Power Rankings, not much has changed at the top here in the eastern portion of the Commonwealth. But, there was some shakeup in the middle and at the bottom, as Andover shot themselves into the state-wide conversation with a win over BC High, and Holliston continues to climb thanks to an explosive offense.

Oh, and star running back Kerry Raymond returned for Brockton, helping the Boxers earn a big win and shoot up a few spots. Check out our complete rankings below.
