Marshfield's front seven had been dominant in the early goings of the season, but did it show some vulnerability against B-R?

It was an odd week for high school football in the eastern portion of the Commonwealth. Unlike in Central Mass, where regional powers were returning to their former glory, a pair of EMass mainstays took tough losses, and may need to go back to the drawing board offensively.

Meanwhile, a trio of Division 3 teams are impressing, as Milton continues its hot start and both Tewksbury and North Attleborough make their debuts in our Power Rankings after big wins.

Postgame Blog: St. John's Prep Too Much for Mansfield

Seniors Oliver Eberth (QB) and Jay Carnevale (C) were St. John's Prep's only two returning offensive starters, but the Eagles offense didn't miss a beat Friday night in Mansfield.

It's a new season, and I will try to provide postgame blogs for every game I cover for ESPN Boston this year.

Friday the high school football season began, and I had the pleasure of producing video for ESPN Boston's Game of the Week, featuring the host Hornets of Mansfield and visiting Eagles of St. John's Prep.

Massachusetts Football Recruit Profiles Coming in the New Year

We are happy to announce that between January 4th and National Signing Day (February 4th), our SuitePreps section will be churning our recruiting profiles on many of the Massachusetts high school football players that will be continuing their careers at the next level.

Our initial group of players can be found below, and please note that this is not an exhaustive list of every MA player taking their game to the college ranks. Rather, it is a collection of players I have seen enough of to profile.

Eastern Mass HS Football Power Rankings: End of the Line

Editor Joe Parello started us off with his final Central Mass Power Rankings earlier this week, and now correspondent Mike Uva breaks down the Eastern section of the Commonwealth with his postseason Top-10.

1. Xaverian: 12-0, 4-0 Catholic Conference  



Accolades: Division 1 State Champs, Catholic Conference Champs



The Hawks completed a perfect season for the first time since their last state championship in 2009. Arguably one of the most dominating seasons by a defense in the past decade, Xaverian allowed just 9.8 points per game, and didn't surrendered more than 14 points in a single game until the Super Bowl.

Eastern Mass HS Football Playoff Preview

Led by two-way stars Noah Sorrento (#4), Kenny Kern (#45) and Joe Gaziano (#97), Xaverian is the favorite in a loaded Division 1 bracket.

Eastern Mass HS Football Power Rankings: 10/13/14

Despite the loss to Xaverian, Brockton running back Kerry Raymond went over 100 yards rushing for the fourth game in a row, and the Boxers once again look like a force to be reckoned with.

Even in defeat, Brockton impressed Friday against top-ranked Xaverian, while Central Catholic's demolition of Lowell made room for a new team in correspondent Mike Uva's Top-5.

Xaverian may have the best group of linebackers in the state, led by standout Kenny Kern, who also serves as the Hawks' fullback and short yardage specialist.

Led by QB Oliver Eberth and RB/LB Jack Lambert, St. John's Prep has won three in a row against teams ranked in the Top-10 of ESPN Boston's statewide high school football poll. The Eagles will get another chance to enhance their resume at Everett this coming Saturday.

Ed Note: We've been doing Power Rankings for Central Massachusetts football and lacrosse for over a year now, and we're thrilled to announce our first Eastern Mass Power Rankings, courtesy of new correspondent Mike Uva. Mike is a 2010 graduate of St. John's Prep, where he played football for the Eagles before moving on to play at Assumption College in Worcester.

A recent Assumption grad, Mike has deep ties to Massachusetts football and a wealth of knowledge of the game's local history and culture. He's definitely the perfect guy to help us expand our coverage into the far more populated section of the Commonwealth.
