Watertown Goes from Sleeper to State Champ in D3, Topping Easthampton

Springfield, Mass. - Prior to the sectional tournaments, SuiteSports.com picked 7th-seeded Watertown in D3 North as a potential sleeper.

The Raiders (20-6) then proceeded to exceed everyone’s expectations but their own, winning the 2018 MIAA Division 3 boys state title by beating the Easthampton Eagles, 72-53, on Saturday afternoon at Springfield College.

Watertown’s mantra in the tournament was #Sleeper, and both head coach Stephen Harrington and star senior guard Julio Fulcar (25 points, 6 rebounds, 4 steals) said that the #Sleeper motto motivated them.

Everett, Cambridge, Burke, Brookline, Watertown, & Bishop Stang Get Wins at BABC Holiday Classic

BOSTON - The holidays are over, but the gift of winning for Cambridge is still ongoing.

As part of the BABC Holiday Classic at Cathedral High School on Wednesday, the Falcons picked up their 49th consecutive victory, knocking off Portsmouth (NH), 48-46.

Cambridge forward Khai Smith dominated in the paint throughout the contest, finishing with 16 points and 20 rebounds.

The Falcons held a seemingly insurmountable 34-13 lead at the half and seemed well on their way to another blowout victory.

Portsmouth, however, changed their approach in the second half and came out in a 2-1-2 zone in order to slow the game down.

Dennis-Yarmouth Dominates Watertown for Trip to Gillette

Medford, Mass. – All season long, Dennis-Yarmouth has been as dominant as its record would advertise. On Friday night, quarterback Jacob McCarthy made sure the Dolphins took it to another level.

Behind four touchdown passes from McCarthy, and a nearly perfect defensive effort, Dennis-Yarmouth defeated Watertown, 41-3, in the Division 5 state semifinals at Hormel Stadium. 

With the win, the Dolphins (11-0) advance to the Division 5 Super Bowl at Gillette Stadium.

Melrose Continues Hot Start With League Win Against Watertown

MELROSE - On a night full of defensive highlights, Melrose’s final one proved to be the most critical of them all.

With Melrose holding a 28-14 lead and under three minutes to play, Watertown marched down to the 16-yard line, hoping for one last gasp of life.

Melrose lineman Patrick Byrnes (3 sacks), however, came off the edge and stripped Watertown quarterback Nick McDermott. Michael Sickler recovered the fumble and Melrose (3-0) held on for a 28-14 Middlesex League win over the visiting Raiders (2-1) on a damp Friday night at Melrose High School.

The Red Raiders defense combined for nine sacks on the night, while forcing two fumbles and coming away with an interception.

MIAA Boys' Hoops State Semifinal Preview: Division 3

Bartlett's senior-laden team is just a game away from the state championship.
