Marshfield Captures ACL Title Against Falmouth

Marshfield, Mass. - For Marshfield boys basketball, revenge is a dish best served with an Atlantic Coast League regular season championship on the side.

The Rams (13-2, 7-1) hosted the Falmouth Clippers (15-4, 6-2) in a rematch of a game that the Clippers won, 59-50, at home versus the Rams on January 12th of this year. This time however, it was Marshfield that enjoyed its home-court advantage, en route to a 66-48 victory for the ACL regular season title.

“Nobody believed in this group,” Rams head coach Bob Fisher said, as his eyes welled up. “Yet he we are, champions.”

MARSHFIELD - The Falmouth High football team is no longer on a 17-game winning streak.

The Clippers, who went undefeated last season, had not lost a game since November 6, 2015... Until Friday night in Marshfield. The Marshfield Rams (2-1) snapped that win streak, as they controlled the trenches all day. The Rams came away with a 57-6 home win over their Atlantic Coast League opponent.

“Well, the kids just came to play today,” Rams head coach Lou Silva said. “From the third play on, they did a great job on both sides of the ball and with the kicking game. Everything came together tonight.”

There is no more consistent program in Massachusetts lacrosse than Medfield. The three-time reigning Division 2 state champions have made high-level play on the field their calling card under head coach John Isaf.

This year the Warriors will, once again, be among those at the front of the D2 field in the quest to lift the trophy at Boston University, but Isaf is firmly planted in the present, as he will put together a team that lost three Division 1 talents last season- Kevin McCordic, Jack-Henry Vara, and John Maclean, as well as scorer Matt Trieber (Tufts) and starting goalie Kyle Gately (Hamilton).

“Number one, we’re not state champ,” Isaf said. “It’s 2017 and this team hasn’t done anything yet. We really don’t look at ourselves as state champs. This is a new team and a new season. We’re in pursuit, and we’re pursuing being the best team we can be. We have some good talent coming back.”

O'Bryant Runs Away from Falmouth in D2 South Semi

BROCKTON, Mass. - For O’Bryant, the Tigers feel it is their time.

On Wednesday night, behind 22 points, 7 rebounds, and 7 assists from sophomore sensation Rivaldo Soares, O’Bryant clinched a spot in the Division 2 South Sectional Final with a 80-57 victory over Falmouth at Brockton High school.

O’Bryant moves on to play Whitman-Hanson on Friday night in their first sectional final appearance since 2005.

Tigers Coach Drew Brock said this has been his most fulfilling year as a coach.

Braintree's Offense Soars in Win over Falmouth

BOURNE, Mass. - There were four points where the game was tied: It could have gone either way.

But, straying away from their defensive-minded ways, the Wamps (13-6-2) out-slugged the Clippers (14-9-2) in a 5-4 Division 1 South quarterfinal win at Gallo Ice Arena Sunday night.

Given the adversity the Clippers faced this season -- with seniors Owen Higgins and James Lavin passing away in a tragic car crash in December 2016 -- Wamps head coach Dave Fasano expressed admiration for his opponents and praised their performance.

Tobey Leads Falmouth Boys' Hockey Past Duxbury

BOURNE, Mass. - When tragedy struck the Falmouth High boys’ hockey team, senior defenseman Cam Tobey knew it was time to step up.

Earlier in the season, the Falmouth High boys’ hockey team tragically lost two of their seniors -- forward Owen Higgins and defenseman Jake Lavin -- who died in a car crash in December. Devastated by the news, Tobey left the Philadelphia Revolution (Eastern Hockey League) and enrolled back at Falmouth High School.

For the No. 6 Clippers (14-8-1) in the first round of the Division 1 South playoffs against the  No. 11 Duxbury Dragons (10-11-2), Tobey was the difference-maker in his team’s 4-3 win at Gallo Ice Arena Friday night.

RECAP: Falmouth Overwhelms Marblehead in D2A

FOXBOROUGH, Mass.- When Derek Almeida took over his alma mater Falmouth High three years ago, the Clippers were going through some of their leanest years in program’s rich history. But the way Almeida sees it, “I couldn’t have asked for a better situation.”

Given a blank canvas, Almeida carefully molded the Clippers back into a dynamo. And after achieving the first state championship and undefeated season in school history this afternoon, after skating to a 34-13 rout of Marblehead in the MIAA Division 2A State Final, Almeida has his Picasso.
