Tech Boston Clinches Spot at TD Garden with Route of Hingham

Taunton, Mass. - Playing on the iconic TD Garden parquet floor is something every high school basketball player in the Massachusetts dreams of doing.

On Saturday, the winner of the division 2 South sectional final between Tech Boston and Hingham would get a chance to live out that dream. Tech Boston made it clear right from start of the contest that it would be the team to play at the TD Garden, defeating Hingham soundly by a score of 69-44.

“I’m so happy for these kids, I’m happy for Dorchester, I’m happy for inner city kids in Boston," Tech Boston coach Johnny Williams said. "It proves to you that they are capable kids, and if you hold them to high standards, they will perform.

"We never coddled them, we never dumbed it down, our expectations are at the highest level, and they always step up to the challenge.”

BOSTON – On Monday night, the TD Garden belonged to Brighton.

The North champion Bengals were on fire from the opening tip, and South champion Whitman-Hanson never stood a chance in the face of an unprecedented barrage of shooting and scoring, as Brighton rolled to a 94-48 victory in the Division 2 Eastern Mass Final, and advanced to the D2 state finals in Springfield this Saturday.

Nine different players scored during a 29-point first quarter for Brighton (22-5) and, while Whitman-Hanson (19-4) responded to trim the deficit to 10 at 33-23 midway through the second quarter, Brighton’s retort was a 12-3 run to go into the locker room up 45-26 at the half.

Hanover Uses Defense to Down Watertown in D3 EMass Final

BOSTON – In the final games of the season on the biggest stages in the state, the difference between winning and losing can simply come down to making or missing shots.

The Division 3 South champion Hanover Indians (22-3) executed a daring gambit in a state semifinal matchup against North champion Watertown (21-3) at TD Garden. In going to a 2-3 zone late in the first quarter, they essentially dared the Raiders to beat them with shooting, and Watertown could not buy a bucket during a lengthy drought in the second half.

With their opponents struggling to score, the Indians didn’t miss their opportunity, as they went on a steady 13-0 run to snare a 37-28 lead and set up a 46-40 victory to advance to the state finals.
